Challenge

With the rollout of the new performance management system, the goal was to promote a culture of regular, meaningful 1-on-1s. Many employees saw these meetings as administrative tasks, so the challenge was to shift perceptions and encourage consistent, growth-focused conversations using the new tool.

Solution

I designed a 10-minute interactive microlearning in Articulate Rise that reframed the purpose of 1-on-1s and taught employees how to prepare, lead, and follow up effectively.
Key design elements included:

  • Myths vs. Facts interactions to shift mindset.

  • Step-by-step structure: Before – During – After the Meeting.

  • Visual job aids and reflection prompts for immediate application.

  • WCAG-compliant layout and neutral visuals for confidentiality.

Process

  • Conducted needs analysis using employee survey data and HR insights.

  • Storyboarded concise content focused on behavior change.

  • Designed graphics and icons in Canva for a clean, modern look.

  • Built and tested the course in Rise for desktop and mobile delivery.

Results

  • 94% completion within two weeks of launch.

  • 88% of learners reported greater confidence leading 1-on-1s.

  • Managers observed more structured, proactive conversations.

  • HR engagement scores on manager–employee communication rose 17%.

  • Replaced a 45-minute live session with a 10-minute digital module, saving over 30 hours per onboarding cycle.
